Draw Yourself Out

a community of the awkward and brave using art to find clarity and self compassion

Journaling

I share weekly drawing/journaling prompts. These follow themes such as  Uncertainty,  Validation, and Belonging. These prompts will help you take care of yourself in this uncertain time.

Support

I use my coaching skills to ask questions and start conversations that help members process emotions and and find clarity and  self compassion  when they feel lost.

Art & Play

Even if you feel like you can't draw, you can use the tools I share to explore your thoughts and feelings through art.

Connection

I'm committed to creating  space where we can find belonging and acceptance for all the beautiful and wobbly parts of ourselves.  Our community gently explores the vulnerability needed for making true connections.

In the Draw Yourself Out community I bring together people interested in healing and emotional growth so they can learn in a safe and fun space how to use drawing/comics/journaling as part of doing the mental and emotional maintenance needed for being human.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

This is evolving based on the needs of the community. I am creating a space where people can be supported and find creative tools for doing the mental and emotional maintenence of being human

Here's my current vision:

(Again, this will evolve - join us and help make this the supportive space you're needing right now.)

  • Once a month I'll offer a group draw/coaching session based on the monthly theme that you can join live if you like. It will be recorded. April's theme is uncertainty. Future theme topics I'm looking at include enoughness, guilt, and belonging)

  • Weekly I'll share a short drawing/journal prompt.

  • We also have a weekly "Show and Tell" thread where you can share about any creative projects you've got going on.

In between I'll be focusing on helping the group form connections and creating a space where people can share art, talk about stuff they're feeling, and generally support one another in healing and self care. I may open other times to draw together if people want, or open up group coaching sessions if that's of interest.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL IT TAKE?

Rather than thinking of this as a time commitment I'm thinking of it as building the community I need to be able to function in an emotionally healthy way. If I had to give a hard number... I'd say if you want to participate you could probably spend an hour or two over the course a week doing practices from this group. It's up to you and how long you can find to draw/paint/journal/think about stuff.

Many of the exercises will be things kids could do of they want, I have three kids and am happy to help you adapt any of them to a family activity.

WHAT QUALIFIES YOU TO LEAD THIS GROUP?

This is a great question! Here's a little more about my qualifications as a coach, community leader and artist:

  • I am a trained coach. I have complete over 65 hours of ICF accredited training and am on my way to completing the 100 hours of coaching practice needed to gain certification.  Coaching skills mean I'm good at non-judgmental listening, asking questions that help you find your way through complex and confusing situations and partnering with you to problem solve and find clarity and insights.

  • I have training in healing and preventing childhood emotional neglect (CEN). This means I'm invested in learning and practicing ways we can all get better at feeling and expressing our emotions. I am not a therapist, I am expressly a coach, which is different in that it is a more forward 'next steps' way of looking at things, however my CEN work informs my coaching.

  • I use comic making and art for my own emotional growth. You can find my public comics at @freefalldiaries on Instagram.

  • I have been teaching in-person Draw Yourself Out classes locally. Participants have found them to be fun, safe and transformative.

"You created an amazing, open space to do this expressive work. I feel like you are providing more than you are aware of. Yes, it's a draw yourself out space... but you created a safe space to really, deeply connect with oneself and grow. Very Powerful." Sydney, DYO in-person class member

Draw Yourself Out is the group for you if:
  • You are working through emotional healing and growth and you'd like a creative outlet for emotional processing.
  • You'd like the support of other people who are also learning how to feel feelings and connect authentically.
  • You want to heal from and/or prevent childhood emotional neglect.
  • You want to find your playfulness again.
  • You know you'll get confused or lost feeling sometimes, and you want a group the reminds you how to find self compassion and a sense of belonging again.
  • You think drawing, doodling or painting would be a cool way to connect with yourself, but you're just not sure how to do it.
